"Chuck and Bleuch"

I've been on a roll lately working from photos I took at Philmont when I worked as a wrangler in the summer of 2010.

This is one of the bosses, Chuck, with one of his two white horses, Bleuch; The other one is named Lupé. Chuck started at Philmont many moons ago as a wrangler and then worked up to Horseman and now he is one of the main bosses. All of the bosses are real characters with many, many stories and they know all the pastures, like where there's a bog that a horse could get stuck in. I'd love to go back some day and just talk to them.

"Begging for More (Rein)"

After painting "Speed Demon" I thought that a detailed and tighter composition would make a good painting, plus paired with some vibrant greens and a blazing sorrel coat would really liven it up. What do you think?

"Speed Demon"

So a week or two ago I started this quick painting from a photo I took when I was working at Philmont. This is of a cowgirl that I've painted before (Golden Days of Summer, Girlfriend Time) racing a horse named Sunset around barrels.

Update: Life and Art

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted. I've been extremely busy lately. So updates on paintings in progress and why I'm being so slow with things.

Well, in the last week of March my car was rear ended  when I was stopping for traffic and the guy was going relatively slow (25-30 mph?) and he promptly pushed my car into the car in front of me and my head was whipped around pretty good. That night my husband took me to the ER (after he got off early from work) and I had the usual symptoms of whiplash. It probably didn't help that I saw the guy coming for me with his already damaged front bumper (probably from previous accident(s)), so I tensed up for impact. Well, fast forward two months and I've been going to Physical Therapy twice a week (last week went down to once a week) and Acupuncture and Massage Therapy once a week for my neck/shoulder/back pains. With all that fun stuff I've had less time to work on and complete all the paintings I've been wanting to do.

So, enough of that … here are some in progress shots I've been taking with my phone.

In spirit of the Kentucky Derby ...

In spirit of the Kentucky Derby this weekend, I did a couple of small watercolors (5" x 7") from some photos I took last fall at Portland Meadows. The race horses were being warmed up early that morning. I'll have to go again sometime, but to an actual race.
So, here are the paintings I did tonight.
